Welcome
Member Conduct & Removal Policy
Our Commitment to the Community
The Black Rose Society was founded on friendship, inclusivity, and the joy of gathering together at Renaissance festivals and related events. To preserve this spirit, we have created a clear and consistent process for reviewing serious concerns about member conduct.
Our Shared Values
Every member of the Black Rose Society is expected to uphold the values that define who we are: respect, inclusivity, kindness, and fellowship. We are here to celebrate the magic of faire, to lift one another up, and to create a community where everyone feels welcome and safe. At the heart of it, we ask all members to simply act as decent human beings toward one another.
When Removal May Be Considered
The Black Rose Society does not police personal lives or private disputes. Removal of a member is rare and final, and will only be considered when:
-
There is documented violence, harassment, or sexual assault connected to BRS spaces or members.
-
There is a protective order, court record, or official festival/venue ban related to the matter.
-
Behavior has directly endangered the safety of the community at a BRS-hosted event.
-
Repeat, willful violations of BRS event rules after council intervention.
-
A member engages in grossly inappropriate conduct that violates the values of the Black Rose Society or creates a hostile or unsafe environment for others.
What We Will Not Do
-
We will not act on hearsay or rumor.
-
We will not intervene in private disagreements between individuals outside BRS spaces.
-
We will not accept pre-emptive complaints about potential future behavior.
-
We will not revisit closed decisions unless new evidence or a new incident occurs.
Our Process
-
All concerns must be submitted through our official Member Conduct Form.
-
The council will review the submission, including documentation and context from all involved parties.
-
Once a decision is reached, the requester will receive a formal outcome letter on BRS letterhead.
-
Reviews remain confidential. Once a matter is closed, it will not be further discussed unless additional evidence or a new incident occurs. If that happens, the matter may be reviewed again at that time.

Final Note
The Black Rose Society is here to celebrate community and faire—not to create division. We trust all members to uphold our shared values of respect, safety, and fellowship so that together we can continue to create a welcoming and uplifting community.
